Sizing it to your land

Up to 3 acres, a 25–30 HP machine is usually enough. Between 3 and 8 acres, 35–45 HP handles a rotavator and a trailer comfortably. Past 8 acres, or if you run a seed drill and a thresher in the same season, step up to 45–55 HP.

Hydraulics matter more than you expect

Mixed farming means constantly raising and lowering implements. A tractor with a weak lift will do the work, but slowly and with more wear. Check the lifting capacity against the heaviest implement you own before comparing prices.

Running cost

Diesel is the largest ongoing cost. A tractor one power class above what you need burns fuel every hour for capacity you never use, so oversizing "to be safe" is usually the more expensive mistake.
