Captain 200 DI vs ACE Veer 20

Comparing the Captain 200 DI and the ACE Veer 20 — both sit at the same engine rating, and they are priced within a few thousand rupees of each other. The specifications below are from the manufacturers; the section under them explains what those differences mean on an actual farm.

Which one should you buy?

Both of these are sold into the same segment, so the choice comes down to a handful of real differences rather than one being better than the other outright.

Price

There is very little between them on price — under ₹10,000 separates the two ex-showroom. At that margin the dealer you buy from matters more than the sticker, because exchange value and finance terms vary by more than this gap.

PTO power

Both put down effectively the same PTO horsepower (Captain 200 DI: 17 HP, ACE Veer 20: 17.2 HP), so neither has an advantage on implements.

Lifting capacity

Near-identical hydraulics — Captain 200 DI at 600 Kg, ACE Veer 20 at 600 KG. Both will carry the same implements.

Gearbox

Captain 200 DI: 8 Forward + 2 Reverse. ACE Veer 20: 6 Forward + 3 Reverse. Count the low-range speeds rather than the total — puddling and rotavating need slow ground speed at working engine revs, and a box with too few low gears forces a compromise between the two.

Other differences

They also differ on brakes (Shoe Brake vs Disc Brake), steering (Mechanical Single Drop arm vs Power Steering), warranty (700 Hours/ 1 Year vs 2000 Hour / 2 Years). None of these decide the purchase on their own, but oil-immersed brakes and power steering are worth paying for if you spend long days on the machine.

The short answer

On paper these two are closely matched — there is no dimension where one is clearly ahead. When that is the case, the specification sheet has stopped being useful and the decision should be made on the things it cannot show you: which dealer is nearer, which one quotes a better on-road price, and which brand has a workshop you can actually reach in season.

Before you decide

  • Prices here are ex-showroom. Add roughly 7–10% for RTO registration and insurance, and get the on-road figure in writing from the dealer, itemised.
  • Visit more than one dealer for each brand. Exchange value and finance terms vary between showrooms by more than the price gap between these two machines.
  • Ask how far the nearest workshop is for each brand. A tractor that is down for a week in season costs more than the difference between these two.
  • Drive both with an implement attached, not empty. An unloaded tractor tells you very little.
