Who a above 80 HP tractor is for

Tractors in the above 80 HP band are generally bought for estate farming, heavy construction attachments and large contract operations. Horsepower on its own is a poor way to choose a tractor — two machines with the same engine rating can behave very differently depending on lifting capacity, hydraulics and gearbox ratios.

A specialist purchase. Resale is slower than in the 35–50 HP bands, which affects total cost of ownership.

What to check before buying

  • Lifting capacity — this, not horsepower, decides which mounted implements the tractor can actually carry.
  • PTO horsepower — always lower than engine horsepower, and it is the figure that matters for a rotavator or thresher.
  • 2WD or 4WD — 4WD costs more and uses more fuel, but is worth it if you puddle paddy or work on slopes.
  • Gearbox — count the low-range speeds if you do a lot of puddling or haulage.
  • Service network — check that the brand has a workshop within reach of your village before you commit.

Price and on-road cost

The prices listed above are ex-showroom. On-road price adds RTO registration and insurance, which vary by state and typically add 7–10% to the ex-showroom figure. Use the state-wise links below for an estimate in your state, and always confirm the final figure with a local dealer — exchange offers and finance schemes differ between showrooms of the same brand.
