Many state governments are supplying certified and improved seeds of various crops on a subsidy to encourage farmers to sow seeds of improved varieties. In this episode, the Bihar government is advocating for the cultivation of maize in the state. The state government is providing subsidies to producers for the cultivation of maize in order to facilitate this. Additionally, in order to facilitate the cultivation of maize by a greater number of farmers in the state during the Kharif season, the government is offering subsidised maize seedlings to farmers. The quality and disease resistance of these enhanced seeds are also high, and they are maize varieties that provide high production at a low cost.

The government is prioritising the production of coarse cereals.

On behalf of the government, we would like to bring to your attention the fact that the production of coarse cereals is currently receiving a substantial amount of attention.  To this end, the government is promoting the cultivation of cereals such as maize, madua, kauni, sorghum, kodo, and china in the state. Maize was predominantly cultivated in the province during the Kharif season in the past. In order to encourage an increasing number of farmers to cultivate maize, the Agriculture Department of the Bihar Government is also providing subsidies for maize cultivation during the Kharif season. The government is also establishing a maize minimum support price (MSP) scheme to provide equitable prices for producers.

Corn seedlings are available to farmers on a subsidy basis.

The Bihar government has initiated Kharif Abhiyan 2024 with the objective of fostering the cultivation of maize crop in the state, as reported by media outlets. The maize seed distribution programme is distributing maize seedlings in clusters of 25 acres during this campaign. The objective of sowing maize seedlings in 4493 clusters has been established. Simultaneously, initiatives are underway to encourage the cultivation of baby maize and sweet corn in the state. In order to achieve this, the state government is providing producers with incentives through a unique programme. This was accompanied by the availability of seeds for enhanced sweet corn varieties to enhance the diversity of sweet corn in maize cultivation. In such circumstances, farmers who desire to cultivate maize may obtain seeds at a subsidised rate. At present, the State Seed Corporation (BRBN) is offering eight varieties of maize to producers. Maize cultivars that are more advanced are suitable for specific environmental conditions. Additionally, their disease resistance and quality are enhanced, which also contributes to their increased production. These maize varieties are mature within 90 to 100 days (three and a half months).
