Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced several important initiatives to help farmers in Bihar. The agreements were signed during talks with Bihar Agriculture Minister Mangal Pandey at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi.

Key decisions for farmers in Bihar: 

  • APEDA Office in Bihar: Shri Chauhan authorized the setting up of Agriculture and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) office at Krishi Bhawan, Bihar.  The program is aimed at increasing the country’s agricultural exports, improving access and services for producers, thereby expanding their markets 
  • Support for Improved Hybrid Seeds: The Union Minister directed the Agriculture Department to extend subsidy to farmers in Bihar for providing improved hybrid seeds as a key factor in improving crop yields and saving food they will get it. 
  • Enhanced financial support for agricultural schemes: Responding to the state’s request, Mr. Chauhan gave immediate approval for the distribution of the second phase of the National Agricultural Development Plan for Bihar. Further, he assured additional funds for the Krishna Nati Scheme for agricultural innovation and development aimed at promoting agricultural innovation and development.
  • Development of wheat research centre: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) will modernize regional wheat research and seed production in Bihar to better meet the needs of farmers. Mr. Chauhan directed the officials to use state-of-the-art technology at the centre.
  • Support for honey and litchi farmers: Bihar, which is famous for producing litchi and honey, will get additional support. The aim was to increase the productivity and market value of producers involved in these projects by providing incentives. 
  • Strengthening NRC Makhana: The National Research Center (NRC) at Makhana can provide assistance to makhana farmers in Bihar, one of the popular agricultural commodities in the region.

Commitment to the welfare of farmers 

Mr. Chauhan emphasized that these schemes are part of the government’s comprehensive programs to promote the welfare of farmers, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "We are dedicated to doing our utmost to improve the condition of Bihar's farmers," he declared. 

The government’s emphasis on increasing agricultural production, increasing exports and providing latest technologies and financial support to Bihar’s farmers to thrive in the competitive global market is evident in these decisions. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to uplift the farmers of Bihar and India as a whole, as seen under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The central government aims to promote the long-term and sustainable growth of domestic production by increasing support for agricultural research, promoting exports and modernizing yields which will be raised.
