Horsepower is usually the first thing that springs to mind. As a general rule the bigger the horsepower the higher the price. But it’s not all about engine power. Features such as four-wheel drive, power steering, improved hydraulics and new cabs with greater comfort and visibility all contribute to a tractor’s cost.
Build quality and construction materials are also important. Tractors for large commercial farms are built for heavy-duty, continuous use and therefore have tougher components than models for lighter, occasional use. This difference shows up in the price.
Finally brand reputation and after sales assistance also influence the pricing. A good dealer network, spare parts easily available and a longer guarantee period may mean the manufacturer charges a little more for his tractors but it could mean reduced running expenses and less downtime over the years so it is worth taking this into account with any buying choice.
